When a new year begins the Albany-Tula Alliance likes to reflect on where we’re going as an organization. First and foremost, we thank all who serve on our Board and donate to our cause. Each member, donation and volunteer helps to shape the ATA and enable us to advance the principles of a sister-city organization. It’s been proven that people-to-people citizen diplomacy furthers peace and prosperity on a global scale and, after 25 years, the ATA stays committed to that goal.
Despite changing and challenging times our volunteers commit their heart and hands to expanding several programs that include Business Development, Health and Environment, Education and Culture and Tourism. Members participate in more than just meetings, we provide home stays, dinners, transportation and entertainment for our guests from Tula. In other words, we foster cultural understanding and long-lasting friendships despite media influence or political opinion.
One of our Board Members puts it this way: “It’s hard to believe but thanks to the ATA one of my closest friends lives nearly 5,000 miles away and speaks a different language. Elena has taught me how to toast like a poet, never show up at someone’s house without a gift in hand, and always dress to impress – even when I’m taking the garbage out!”
