Members of the Albany-Tula Alliance, public officials, and boat enthusiasts were at the Port of Albany today to enjoy a sailing demonstration of a handcrafted 18th-century replica ship from Russia called the lod’ja “Pilgrim”. The sea-worthy vessel has been circumnavigating the globe on an international expedition to spread cultural goodwill. The boat is a floating museum lined with maritime icons and historic memorabilia. Captain Sergey Sinelnik and first mate, Aleksey Volchok, love to share their tales of survival on the high seas with school students or anyone interested in learning more about ship-building.
