Launch of the 2014 Essay Contest
In the interest of cultural understanding and cooperation, every two years the ATA sponsors an essay contest for Capital Region students. Given the influence of social media sites to organize, communicate and raise awareness we decided to ask students to reflect on how sites like Facebook and Twitter have impacted modern Russian society, for better or worse.
To help students with ideas on essay topics, the Albany-Tula Alliance is holding an Informational Gathering this Monday, February 10, 2014. The gathering will start at 4:30p at the William K. Sanford Town Library at 629 Albany Shaker Road (next to the Times Union building).
Guest speakers will include 2012 Essay Contest Winner Rose Schneider and Education Committee Chair Barbara Webster including a visual slide show presentation about popular Russian social media sites, topical news stories and feedback from our friends in Moscow.
Students, parents and the media are encouraged to attend to learn more about the contest.
