Monday September 19th: Public Performance, Unitarian Church, Albany

Pianist Findlay Cockrell joins the Orchestra on selected songs. Performance at 7:30 pm; first come first seated. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early as seating is limited. Price: $5 suggested donation.  No advance ticket sales.

Description: The Yasnaya Polyana Ensemble, which has toured widely in Russia, is bringing its traditional Russian sound to the United States at the invitation of sister-city organization Albany-Tula Alliance, and will perform at the Knickerbocker in New York City before traveling to Albany for two shows and a number of school performances. Audiences of all ages will delight to Yasnaya Polyana’s flying fingers and toe-tapping beats and the wonderful sounds of balaikas, accordion, domra, and voice.

Description:  Getting to Know You invites Capital Region residents to enter the world of our Russian sister city, Tula.  In the 20 years we have been sister cities, individuals and institutions in both centers have laughed, learned, and created together, enriching and expanding their understanding of our global world. This exhibit celebrates this past and invites a new generation of Capital Region residents into our future by presenting Tulan art and culture, along with video memories from both of our communities.  

OPENING RECEPTION. The opening reception for the Retrospective will be Friday, September 9th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM and will feature Russian tea and special teacakes made in our sister city Tula.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: During the three weeks of the Exhibit, submissions  of drawings and paintings will also be accepted in the main Gallery from young people ages 6 to 16 who wish to create art on the theme of “Friendship between the U.S. and Russia.” Entries selected will be showcased on the Albany-Tula Alliance Website in early 2012.For information visit, please CLICK HERE.
