Russian-American Homeschooling Conference II

August 1, 2021

The second meeting of the Albany-Tula conference on homeschooling is scheduled for Tuesday, August 17, 8 AM – 10 AM EST.

The speakers are:

Beth Smith.  The parents in Tula are very much looking forward to Beth’s second presentation, to find there more ideas and more inspiration before the beginning of a new school year. Beth was our keynote speaker in April and the audience loved her approach to homeschooling and are eager to hear more from Beth.

Maria Afanasieva, will introduce herself to the Board as follows:

“Hello.  My name is Maria and I am very glad that we can meet and discuss such an important topic as homeschooling. We had been thinking about home schooling for a long time, but in the end we were able to realize our ideas only a year before leaving school with older children, we liked it a lot, though there were some shortcomings, but overall I’m happy with the way we have gone.  I will be very glad if during our conversation we can ask each other questions, answer them and discuss all the pros and cons of homeschooling and its difference between homeschooling in Russia and in the United States of America. Hope to see you soon. A few words about myself. I have been teaching English for about 20 years. And although I am an English teacher by profession, during the same period I have been developing my own methodology in a Church Sunday school, it’s in Russian and I’ve got a YouTube channel about it. At the moment I have four children, the eldest is 18, the middle son is 15 and the youngest children are 10 and 7. I also love painting and crafting.”

Oksana Germakovski, a Ukrainian mother of six children, all of whom have been home schooled. The family lives in the Albany area.  Oksana was introduced to this project by Robert Willard, who knows her personally, and I am very grateful to Robert for this wonderful addition to the group of our speakers. Oksana has a blog in Russian with loads of information about homeschooling her children and she is eager to share her enthusiasm with other parents.

Vladimir Kuperman is going to be the conference moderator, and there will also be a recording of the conference for the ATA archives and for those parents who cannot attend it because they are at work this time of the day.

This is a follow-up to the homeschooling conference that the ATA organized through ZOOM between countries in May 2021.  nts have to resolve regardless of whether their children attend regular schools or not.

We are very much looking forward to this event!
